An annual report is the financial report that Swedish companies are required to prepare for each financial year under the Annual Accounts Act. It contains a company’s financial results, financial position and essential information about operations during the year. An annual report is directed at shareholders, lenders, suppliers and other stakeholders who need to understand a company’s financial situation.
Legal requirements and content
Under Swedish annual accounts legislation, all limited companies must prepare and submit annual reports to Bolagsverket. An annual report must be prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and, for larger companies or listed companies, in accordance with IFRS guidelines. It comprises an income statement, balance sheet, notes, a directors’ report and an auditor’s report. Larger companies must also include sustainability reporting in accordance with the CSRD directive.
