Sometimes our clients need a certified translation, a translation that has been signed by a qualified professional translator or translation company to certify that it is accurate and true to the original document. This is not the same as a translation done by an authorised translator – something that only exists in certain countries and for certain languages. Instead, the translator or translation agency confirms that the document is accurate by providing a signed translation certificate.

What is a certified translation?

A certified translation from Fluid Translation means that:

• The translation has been carried out by an experienced and accredited qualified translator.

• It is reviewed by a second linguist in accordance with our quality procedures.

• It is signed – using either an electronic signature or a handwritten signature on a physical document – to confirm that it is accurate and complete.

Certified translations are often used in an international context, for example, when foreign authorities, universities or other organisations require a signed translation but where an authorised translator is either not available or is not necessary.

When is a certified translation required?

Certified translations can be used for e.g.:

• business documents such as articles of association and certificates of registration, for example, in connection with company acquisitions

• legal documents which do not require an authorised translation but must be accompanied by a signed certificate

• applications to foreign universities

• residence permit or visa applications

• employment documents or educational diplomas and degree certificates

There are many countries which do not have systems using authorised translators, nor do authorised translations cover all language combinations, and certified translations are therefore an internationally recognised alternative.
