Supratentorial localisation is a medical term that describes where an anatomical structure or pathological process (such as a tumour or haemorrhage) is located in relation to the tentorium cerebelli – a membrane formation in the brain that separates the cerebrum from the cerebellum.
What is supratentorial?
Supratentorial means ‘above the tentorium’ and refers to the part of the cranial cavity that contains the cerebrum with frontal lobes, parietal lobes, temporal lobes and occipital lobes. This anatomy is used to describe the localisation of tumours, haemorrhages and other disease conditions. Medical terminology must be translated with extreme precision. An incorrect term in medical documents might lead to misdiagnosis or incorrect treatment. Therefore, specialised medical translators are used who understand both the language and medical terminology.
Translation of medical documentation
When translating medical reports, patient records or clinical studies, it is crucial to use translators with medical backgrounds or documented expertise in medicine. They must understand anatomical terminology, disease classification and treatment methods in both source and target languages. A professional language partner with medical specialisation works according to ISO standards with ISO-certified system support. Another important method is the four-eyes principle where at least two medical experts review the translation. They use medical term bases to ensure consistent and correct terminology throughout the document, which is critical for patient safety and medical quality.
